The county covered by Fireworks Surrey is home to two fine educational establishments – the University of Surrey in Guildford and the Royal Holloway university in Egham.
The town of Egham is very close to Runnymead which was the site of the Magna Carta Libertatum (Great Charter of Freedoms), which is the original English Charter put forward in 1215. It compelled the King to let go of some rights, respect certain legal procedures and agree that his will could be tied by the law. It specifically helped the rights of the King's subjects, whether free or imprisoned, and allowed appeal against unlawful imprisonment.
Runnymead also houses the British memorial to President John F Kennedy who was assasinated in Dallas in November 1963.
Surrey also host’s a quantity of well recognized non-league football squads including AFC Wimbledon and Sutton United. Sutton United rose to fame in 1989 when they knocked 1987 FA Cup champs Coventry City out of the same competition.
Woking is the 2nd largest town in Surrey (as Kingston has now become part of greater London, even though the Surrey County Council is still based there). It is 23 miles from central London and is a popular place for commuters to set up home. Famous as being the town where martians landed, in H G Wells’ famous novel “War of the Worlds” which eventually hit the screen as a Hollywood movie. The movie wasn’t set in Woking, or Surrey or even the United Kingdom!
Camberley is another noteworthy town in Surrey that sits between the M3 and M4 and its borders lie with Hampshire and Berkshire. It is close to Sandhurst, which is home to a Royal Military Academy which is attended by both Prince Harry and Prince William. Other important alumni include Royalty from Thailand, Tonga, Spain and Jordan.
Surrey has the highest cost of living in the United Kingdom beyond the boundary of London and also thought to have the largest population of millionaires in Britain. This is partly due to the number of commuters who work in the City of London.
One famous attraction of Surrey is the “Devil’s Punchbowl” – which is a natural ampitheatre (unless of course you believe the myth’s) near Hindhead. The land is looked after by the national trust and is the source of many local stories and legends.
