Exeter, Devon’s county town, has a cathedral that is almost 10 Centuries old and is the situation of an international airport. The cathedral was damaged during air raids in the second World War but remains a popular place to visit.

16 miles south east of Exeter is the town of Torquay, the third biggest settlement in the county of Devon, behind Exeter and Plymouth. The city has a number of impressive beaches and pocesses more “European Blue Flags” than any other town in the UK. These are awarded for water excellence and beach amenities. Torquay was also the inspiration for the 1970’s comedy television series Fawlty Towers.

Loo Hire Devon covers the county that is the abode to the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in England – the Jurassic Coast. The site stretches from near Exmouth in Devon to East Dorset. The total distance is just under 100 miles and can be traversed by using the South West Coast Path. Exmouth is a seaside town that rises to the peak of Orcombe Point. Most of the buildings in the town of Exmouth were built in the Victorian period.

Devon is considered to be one of the earliest areas that humans settled in following the ice age and Dartmoor is thought to have been home to humans around 8000 years ago. Dartmoor is protected by its National Park status and is looked after by the Dartmoor National Park Authority. With around 450 miles of footpaths and bridleways the job of managing the site is no small one.

Devon’s second largest settlement, the city of Plymouth is built on the Lovely river Plym and has suburbs including Plymstock and Plympton, the city enjoy’s average summer temperatures of around 19 degrees centigrade.

Ilfracombe, on the north coast of Devon is surrounded by cliffs. The town is twinned with “Ifs” in France and “Herxheim” in Germany. The town plays hosts to six carnivals every year including processions, walking celebrations and “the Lighting of the Lights” which is held every November.
