In the Marquee Hire Guide .com category Loo Hire Scotland – South we are roughly referring to the counties of; Ayrshire, Lanarkshire, Midlothian, East Lothian, Berwickshire, Roxburghshire, Selkirkshire, Peebleshire, Dumfrieshire, Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire – but not the area’s around Scotland’s two main cities – Edinburgh and Glasgow, which for the purposes of our categorisation count as part of the central region of Scotland.

South Scotland starts from the border with England and goes about one third of the way up Scotland. Some of the major towns in Scotland – South include Castle Douglas, Dumfries, Selkirk, Moffat, Girvam, Pretwick, Ayr and Kilmarnock, amongst others.

On the coast of the Firth of Clyde is the county of Ayrshire in the south of Scotland. The county town of Ayrshire is Ayr – which was home to Robert Burns – regarded as Scotland’s national poet – and the man who “Burns night” is named after. Twinned with Sukhumi in Georgia  (as well as other cities) is the town of Kilmarnock.

Lanark is the county town of Lanarkshire and is the 100th largest settlement in Scotland.

The counties of East Lothian and Milothian border each other near the east coast of southern Scotland. Mussleburgh is the largest town in these two counties and was the site of the battle of Pinkie Cleugh.

Berwickshire is on the border of Scotland and England. Berwick upon Tweed is no longer the county town of Berwickshire as it is no longer in Scotland. Roxburghshire is another county on the border of Scotland. The administrative centre of Roxburghshire is Jedburgh which was the birth place of Mary Somerville. Mary Somerville was a science writer and the word “Scientist” was first used in a review talking about her.

With no coast or national border on their boundary Selkirkshire and Peebleshire are Scottish counties that border each other. Selkirk is Selkirkshire’s county town and Peebles is Peebleshire’s.

Dumfrieshire is another county in the south of Scotland that is on the Scottish border with England. Thomas Telford the famous engineer came from Dumfrieshire.

The two most south easterly counties in Scotland are Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire. Kirkcudbrightshire covers an area of 575,000 acres and is home to the town of Castle Douglas – many of the children in world war 2 were evacuated there. Known as Scotlands “book town” Wigtown is in Wigtownshire.
