Powys is the county that runs up the east coast of central Wales and borders England to the east. Montgomeryshire, Radnorshire and Brecknockshire were traditionally the counties that covered a similar area to Powys.

The administrative centre of Powys is the town of Llandrindod Wells which has a population of around 5000 people. The centre of Wales is fairly close to Llandrindod Wells.

The Brecon Beacons is in Powys. Brecon Beacons is the third park in Wales to get National Park status. Towns within the park include Tredegar, and Brecon.

Ceredigion is a village in central Wales that is famous for it’s “Devil’s Bridge” which is three bridges built over each other – they are now a tourist attraction.

Dyfed covers the area that was formerly covered by the counties of Cardiganshire, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire. The area in the central and south area of west Wales has a population of just over 350,000.

The county administrative centre of Dyfed is Carmarthen which is serviced by the west Wales railway line.

Aberyswyth is a well known University town in Dyfed. The population of the town is 19,500 – 7000 of which are students of the Aberystwyth University.

Other major towns in the Wales region of Dyfed include Haverfordwest – which is said to mean “ford used by fat cows", home of a medieval castle is Pembroke and Llanelli which hosted the Argentina v Western Samoa ruby match when the 1999 rugby world cup was hosted in Wales.
