Yorkshire is the largest county in the UK and can be split into the 4 sub areas: North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and East Riding of Yorkshire. The county covers 6 thousand square miles in total and is the home to a number of major cities, including York, Leeds, Sheffield and Kingston upon Hull.

Loo Hire Yorkshire covers the area that is well known for its beauty and is home to three national parks – the Peak District, the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales. The beach at Whitby was voted as the best beach in the UK

Yorkshire Pudding is probably the best known food to originate in Yorkshire. The batter based dish is often eaten with roast beef.

Bradford, also in West Yorkshire, is the main city of the borough of “The City of Bradford” which has a population of just less than ½ a million people.

Sheffield is traditionally part of the West Riding of Yorkshire but is actually situated in the modern area of South Yorkshire. In 1857 the first ever official football club was formed in the city – it was called Sheffield FC.  There is fierce rivalry between the city’s two current professional teams – Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield united. Sheffield is also home to the World Snooker Championships.

Other major urban areas in Yorkshire include Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster, Selby, Harrogate, Kirklees, Calderdale, Bradford, Craven, Hambleton, Scarborough and Ryedale.

Leeds is a city in West Yorkshire that along with Sheffield is one of the eight largest cities in England outside of London. During 2004 and 2005, Leeds won many tourism awards, including visitor city of the year and Best city to visit in England outside of London.

Wakefield is another town in Yorkshire. Wakefield is known as the capital of the Rhubarb Triangle. The other nearby towns in this triangle are Morley and Rothwell.

York is in North Yorkshire and is another city well known for its bustling tourist trade. In 2007 the Green Party had two councillors in the city of York council.

Hull is on the Humber river estuary and is more properly referred to as Kingston upon Hull. The River Hull joins the river Humber estuary and at this point there is a tidal surge barrier. The Humber bridge is also close to the city. When it was built the Humber bridge was the longest single span suspension bridge in the world and it crossed the river Humber.
