Covering Douglas, Port St Mary, Onchan, Michael, Castletown, Laxey, Port of Erin, Peel, Ramsey, Port Soderick and all areas of the Isle of Man
Marquee Hire Isle of Man covers an island in the Irish Sea, which is a “self governing crown dependency”. The Isle of Man is three times as big as the city of Washington, DC (the capital of the United States of America). The Isle of Man is split into two districts – Michael and Onchan. Official languages on the Isle of Man are Manx and English and the island’s population is around 80,000.
There are 3 official towns on the Isle of Man and 4 official villages. The towns are called Douglas, Castletown, Peel and Ramsey. Douglas is the capital and is home to about one third of the population. Douglas is the main centre for business as well as entertainment and shopping on the Isle of Man. One of the main landmarks in Douglas is the Tower of Refuge which was built in 1824. One of the men behind the idea of the tower was Sir William Hillary who helped to start the RNLI. Douglas is situated on the east coast of the Isle of Man.
Ramsey’s population of 7,309 at the 2001 census make it the third largest settlement on the island. Ramsey has a large harbour. Onchan, although officially a village, has a larger population than Ramsey – making it the second biggest settlement on the Isle of Man. The Onchan wetlands are in the village and are one acre in size.
Castle Rushden is a castle in the Isle of Man town of Castletown. Castletown has a population of around 3000 people and is home to Ronaldsway Airport – the Isle of Man’s main civilian airport.
The town of Peel is often referred to as the only city on the Isle of Man – due to the fact it has a cathedral, although it is actually a town and is the fourth largest settlement on the island, after Douglas, Onchan and Ramsey.
