Salisbury was first settled because of the abundance of water in the area, it is situated close to 5 rivers. The city is well known for its cathedral, which brings many visitors to Wiltshire every day. The original cathedral was built between 1075 and 1092. 800 years later Salisbury was an important centre for music.

Chippenham, a town famous for its railway arches created by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, is also in Wiltshire. A famous buttercross in the town centre has been in its current location since 1995. The buttercross had fallen into dis-repair after being purchased for £6 by Mr E.C. Lowndes in 1889.
