Marquee is Born
A Marquee is Born An Article by Garden City Marquees
Lots of tea has been consumed by the team of burley men in shorts that have spent half of this beautiful summers day hauling strange looking bundles of metal and PVC around your garden and there, where your lawn used to be, this cavernous white structure. As much as this may impress you, the job is far from finished. Now comes the important part that will turn this structure into a marquee suitable for your big event.
Firstly the floor is constructed and levelled. Care must be taken here to ensure that the floor is firm and well supported, this will alleviate any tripping hazards. Simultaneously the electrical wiring is installed for all the internal power and lighting. The electricians will ensure that the wiring is safe and that the correct distribution and fusing is used. Electrical safety in marquees is considered to be of paramount importance.
Next the roof lining is installed followed by the black starlight ceiling above the dancefloor. The next stage is the carpet fitting, great care must now be taken by the crew to keep the carpet laid flat, joined correctly and kept in pristine condition for your event. Access inside the marquee will now be restricted to a few and shoe covers must be used. It is at this point that the lining walls are fitted along with any swags, valances, window and wall overlays, drapes and curtains.

The next activity will be the installation of the stage and dancefloor in strict compliance with the marquee plans. Now it’s the turn of the lighting boys. Chandeliers will be installed along the ridge of the marquee transforming the interior into something magical. Next comes the lighting rails complete with pin spot lamps focused strategically onto individual tables creating a “night club” effect and Par 56/64 lamps for the stage illumination. Finally colour wash up-lights are positioned around the walls, throwing a wash of rose coloured light onto the walls.
Next the marquee interior is cleaned and the carpet vacuumed. The tables and chairs will be positioned in accordance with the plans and after a final vacuum, the marquee is inspected, the power is tested and the switch is thrown. There, in an instant, your vision has materialized, right in your own back garden
