In the Marquee Hire Guide .com category Mobile Bar Hire Scotland – South we are roughly referring to the counties of; Ayrshire, Lanarkshire, Midlothian, East Lothian, Berwickshire, Roxburghshire, Selkirkshire, Peebleshire, Dumfrieshire, Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire – but not the area’s around Scotland’s two main cities – Edinburgh and Glasgow, which for the purposes of our categorisation count as part of the central region of Scotland.

South Scotland starts from the border with England and goes about one third of the way up Scotland. Some of the major towns in Scotland – South include Castle Douglas, Dumfries, Selkirk, Moffat, Girvam, Pretwick, Ayr and Kilmarnock, amongst others.

Ayrshire is a county in south Scotland that is located on the coast of the Firth of Clyde. The county town of Ayrshire is Ayr – which was home to Robert Burns – regarded as Scotland’s national poet – and the man who “Burns night” is named after. Another town in Ayrshire is Kilmarnock – which is twinned with Sukhumi in Georgia (as well as other cities).

Lanark is the county town of Lanarkshire and is the 100th largest settlement in Scotland.

The counties of East Lothian and Milothian border each other near the east coast of southern Scotland. Mussleburgh is the largest town in these two counties and was the site of the battle of Pinkie Cleugh.

Berwickshire is on the border of Scotland and England. The county town used to be Berwick-upon-Tweed – but that is no longer in Scotland. Another county on the border of Scotland and England is Roxburghshire. Jedburgh is the administrative headquarters of Roxburghshire and was the birth place of Mary Somerville. The word Scientist was used for the first time when reffering to Mary Somerville.

With no coast or national border on their boundary Selkirkshire and Peebleshire are Scottish counties that border each other. Selkirk is Selkirkshire’s county town and Peebles is Peebleshire’s.

Dumfrieshire is another county in the south of Scotland that is on the Scottish border with England. Thomas Telford the famous engineer came from Dumfrieshire.

Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire are the two most south easterly counties in Scotland. The town of Douglas is set within the 575,000 acres of Kirkcudbrightshire – which is where many of Glasgow’s children were evacuated to during World War Two. Wigtownshire is home to Wigtown which is known as Scotland’s “book town”.
