In the North West of Wales is the Island of Anglesey which is connected by two bridges designed by Thomas Telford and Robert Stephenson one called the Menai Suspension bridge the other the Britannia bridge.
Wrexham, north Wales’ largest town is positioned between the Welsh mountains and lower Dee valley. Just to the south of Wrexham is the stately home called Erddig. A channel 5 program voted Erddig the “2nd finest stately home in the UK” in 2003.
As well as Wrexham, Clwyd can roughly be described as the areas of Flintshire, Denbighshire and Conwy.
Flintshire was granted the title of “Fairtrade County” in 2004. A Fairtrade county can be described as an area that is committed to the promotion of goods that are Fairtrade certified. Town’s in Flintshire include Buckley, Mold and Flint.
Between the counties of Conwy and Flintshire is the County of Denbighshire. The main town of Denbighshire is Ruthin – the actor Rhys Ifans had his childhood home there – Rhys Ifans has appeared in many well known films including Notting Hill, Shipping News, Twin town, Enduring love to name just a few.
In the north Wales area of Clwyd is the county Borough of Conwy. With a population of 4000 people the main town and administrative HQ is also called Conwy. Other towns in Conwy include Betws-y-Coed, Llanrwst, Llandudno, Llanfairfechan, Llandudno Junction, Llanrwst, Colwyn Bay, Penmaenmawr and Abergele.
The north Wales mountain range of Snowdonia has been a national park since 1951 and is home to around 26,000 people. 1m shorter than Table Mountain in South Africa Mount Snowdon weighs in at 1085 m high and is the tallest mountain in Snowdonia.
